General Resources
Tolkien Gateway
The best wiki for all things JRR Tolkien.
Audiobooks
The Hobbit (unabridged) read by Robert Inglis on the Internet Archive.
My favorite audiobook recording of The Hobbit read by the legendary Rob Inglis. Plus: it's FREE. I suggest putting this on while taking a morning walk, or while you do household chores.
The Fellowship of the Ring (unabridged) read by Robert Inglis,
The Two Towers (unabridged) read by Robert Inglis,
and The Return of the King (unabridged) read by Robert Inglis on the Internet Archive.
I haven't actually listened to these yet, but they're quite popular! Again, all narrated by Inglis and free to access.
Tolkien on YouTube
"JRR Tolkien - Reading from The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit"
A selection of recordings made of Tolkien himself reading passages from his books, including the entirety of "Riddles in the Dark"!
The Red Book (YouTube Channel)
A channel focused on analysis and interpretation of Tolkien's works rather than simple "lore" videos. Not much content focused on The Hobbit, but a great resource nonetheless!
Girl Next Gondor (YouTube Channel)
In-depth explorations of Tolkien's works across a vast array of topics. I highly suggest her video on the Waldman Letter to anyone interested in the wider legendarium.
Tolkien Artists
Turner Mohan
Extremely underrated. His dwarves and orcs were extremely influential when I first started this project.
Artigas
Another incredible and underrated illustrator. Much like Mohan, his dwarves are top-notch.
AZED
Their Lord of the Rings comic book project has some of the most unique takes I've seen on Tolkien's characters. AZED's Sauron design(s) are among the best I've seen. I always appreciate a design that strays away from Howe-ian spikes!
cy-lindric
Some of the most beautiful character designs I've ever seen come from this blog. It's mostly first and second age art, but still incredible. (This includes one of the only "hot Sauron" designs I've ever liked.)
Other Fun Stuff
Glǽmscrafu - Tolkien's Linguistic Cellar
An incredible database of passages written by Tolkien in his invented languages, as well as their pronunciations. Includes recordings of Tolkien himself speaking.
ArdaCraft MineCraft Server
An extremely detailed recreation of Middle Earth based on the descriptions and artwork from Tolkien's works built entirely in modded MineCraft. It's absolutely worth putting the time and effort in exploring the server and discovering every detail you can. My favorite location: Rivendell.
(Note: the map is currently incomplete, so some locations may not exist yet. It's still absolutely worth checking out!)
